News Nearby: Gunman Robs Two Women in Inman Park

Inman Park incident reported early Sunday morning. An unrelated robbery was also reported last Saturday night in East Atlanta

Two women were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday in the 300 block of North Highland Avenue, Atlanta police said.

The victims — ages 26 and 27 — had just left a nearby restaurant at about 1 a.m. and were walking north on North Highland when a man approached them from behind, stuck a gun in the back of the older woman and snatched at her purse.

She began to struggle and her friend tried to help.

But then the man fired a shot at both women above their heads.

The women jumped into some nearby bushes while the gunman ran west toward Freedom Park with one victim's purse, which contained her driver's license, two credit cards, a bank debit card and mobile phone.

In what is believed to be an unrelated incident, Atlanta police are also looking for a gunman who robbed a man Saturday just before 10 p.m. in East Atlanta.

The victim told police he was headed north on Bouldercrest Drive SE and had crossed the Winfield Avenue SE intersection when he said a man pounced on him from behind the fence of an abandoned house at that corner.

Pulling a gun on the victim, the robber told him to walk down Winfield.

Once away from the intersection, the victim reported to police that the gunman aimed the gun to his face and demanded everything the victim had.
