Police Issue Warning About Delivery Truck Break-ins

Four incidents reported since Jan. 18.

The Atlanta Police Department issued an advisory Thursday to delivery truck drivers following four recent reported burglaries.

Each of the crimes occurred as the truck drivers were making deliveries, APD said.

  • Jan. 18: A delivery truck driver reported while he was making a delivery in the 200 block of North Highland Avenue, someone entered the rear of the truck and took several bottles of alcohol after breaking and stealing the lock to the back of the vehicle. The driver reported seeing a U-Haul truck next to his delivery vehicle and several suspects taking items from his truck and into the U-Haul. The suspects fled.
  • Jan. 20: A delivery driver making his rounds in the 1000 block of Ponce de Leon Avenue said while he was inside the business thieves broke the lock to his truck and stole alcohol. There were no witnesses.
  • Jan. 25: A truck driver making a delivery to a business in the 700 block of Wylie Street reported that someone entered the truck and took alcohol. Though the driver closed the door to his vehicle, he did not lock it. There were no witnesses.
  • Jan. 27: A driver making a delivery to a business in the 1600 block of McLendon Avenue, thieves broke the lock to the back of his truck and stole cartons of cigarettes. There were no witnesses.

"We would like to encourage delivery drivers to report any suspicious activity to police, be sure to close and lock the doors of their trucks while making deliveries and if possible have another employee stay with the truck," a spokesman said in a statement.
