News Nearby: Proposed Lakeside Cityhood Map Includes Sagamore Hills, Leafmore

The Lakeside City Alliance released its second proposed map for a new city in northern DeKalb County on Tuesday, and its new boundaries include Sagamore Hills, Leafmore and the Toco Hill commercial corridor.

Those areas were previously left out of the alliance's proposed map because organizers said those areas – Sagamore and Leafmore – were having their own cityhood conversations, and the alliance didn't want to interfere. The map also leaves out the Century Center commercial area along Clairmont Road west of I-85 that had previously been included.

The map also extends north – within the boundaries of I-85 and I-285 – to include the Mercer University area.

The alliance, which is meeting with residents Tuesday night at Briarlake Baptist Church for its second public hearing, has emerged over the last month to dominate local discussion about cityhood in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

ATLANTA, Feb. 25, 2013--- The Lakeside City Alliance (LCA), a non-profit citizens group studying the possibility of establishing a new city in north DeKalb County, has released a revised city map today after receiving feedback from the community. The revised boundaries include the areas in between Interstate 85 on the west, North Druid Hills Road to the south, and Chamblee-Tucker Road on the north and east.

The new boundaries would encompass a city of approximately 60,000 residents. In announcing the release of the revised map, Alliance Chairman Mary Kay Woodworth noted that the revised boundaries represent the Alliance’s efforts to ensure that that the map reflects the desires of the community of interest that encompasses the proposed city.

“We have been listening to our fellow residents since our first meeting and exchanged ideas through emails, telephone calls and various social media outlets,” Woodworth said. “We have made some significant changes from our first draft based on the feedback that we have been getting and look forward to continuing to fine-tune the map in the weeks and months ahead.”

Woodworth noted that the LCA is hosting a public meeting Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Briarlake Baptist Church on LaVista Road to hear additional input from the community. Information about the meeting can be found on the LCA website (www.lakesidealliance.org).

In regards to the revised map, Woodworth added: “It’s exciting to see so much interest and support in this community for this proposal, and I look forward to keeping the conversation going as we move ahead with our study.”
