Pay-By-Phone Parking Meters Coming?

PARKatlanta, the city's parking management company, recently installed more than 600 new, solar-powered meters in Virginia-Highland and other city neighborhoods. The meters take debit and credit cards.

The company plans to introduce something new: pay-by-phone meters.

Creative Loafing reported,

PARKatlanta is in the "final stages" of bringing pay-by-phone parking to the city. [Anderson Moore, Vice President of operations for PARKatlanta's parent company, Duncan Solutions,] says that the company has been working with City Hall and - barring any unforeseen delays - expects to see the technology in Atlanta "within the next 90 days."

The new pay-by-phone technology, which will likely be created by a local app developer, would send a notification text to motorists when their meter was set to expire. It would then give them the option to remotely refill meters and add more time.
