Rep. John Lewis Launches new Social Media App to Help You and Your Friends Vote

Congressman John Lewis is still leading the way, as he launches a brand new app that helps you and your friends vote.

The Campaign to elect John Lewis just announced that it has launched a new social media app that will allow people and their Facebook friends to track whether or not they have voted, in hopes that everyone will take part in this most precious rite.

This tool effectively will turn everyday people who use Facebook into campaign volunteers, with just the push of a button.

According to the campaign, "the new social media tool software has only been used in a few campaigns nationally and the John Lewis for Congress campaign is the first in Georgia."

The software tool is linked to the commonly used political software, Votebuilder.  Through the users Facebook account, the software can identify friends in the Congressman’s district and provides options for email reminders, important voting deadlines and other campaign notices.

We all know that is a organizer first and foremost, from his youthful days following Martin Luther King.  I hope this new App catches on, because it seems like it could be a very useful tool in the upcoming Presidential election as well.  No doubt, people will be tracking its success.

Matt Weyandt, campaign manager for John Lewis for Congress says, “We have a robust Facebook page and social media is a critical way for us to connect with constituents, so this tool is a great companion to our other campaign outreach efforts. It’s not your father’s campaign anymore. Of course campaigns will always need people canvassing and phone banking but its great to activate the thousands of people who follow us online and on Facebook.”
