Wan May Draw Competition for City Council Seat

Adult-store magnate Michael Morrison is rumored to be considering a challenge this fall.

Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan, whose attempt to remove adult-oriented businesses on Cheshire Bridge Road failed this week, may be facing a challenge for his seat this fall.

According to Georgia Voice, Inserection owner Michael Morrison may be planning to launch a campaign against Wan. An announcement could come as soon as next week.

Creative Loafing reports that in 2005, Morrison spent two-and-a-half years behind bars for tax evasion. He was also forced to pay $1.4 million back to the Internal Revenue Service.

Morrison has also been arrested for violating the city's obscenity laws. The Oglethrope University graduate opened his first adult toy store, 9 1/2 Weeks, near a Midtown location the city had chosen for a children's museum.

(Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed the charges for which Morrison was imprisoned.)
