Feels Like Home

A little weekend work around the house and suddenly I'm home.

There's a saying about cobbler’s kids needing shoes.

The same is true for the relationship I have with my house.  Day after day I work to make sure that everyone has what they need so they can enjoy coming home and feeling proud about the place they call “mine.”

This past weekend I got up and for the first time in a long time, had nothing that screamed for my attention.  It was the perfect opportunity to get all those little chores done.  With no list and no agenda I just started.

Wash this, paint that, replace those things, plant that, and clean that out.  I’m also fortunate in that I have a partner who likes showing off his technical ability; so I upped the ante and asked for new door hardware and porch lights. 

Somewhere between the second and third trip to Lowes I got “that” feeling.  The one where I realized I really love my home and have missed taking care of it.  There is something about touching my home, cleaning, polishing, and spending time with it that makes it extra special and truly home.

Instead of staging your home “for sale” I encourage you to take a day and stage your home “for you.”  A few hours of sweat equity and a couple of hundred dollars go a long way to making your residence feel like your home.
