APS Releases 2014-15 Student Transfers Application Schedule

Georgia's Public School Choice law allows residents of the City of Atlanta to attend a public school outside of their zoned school if space is available.

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will begin accepting applications for general administrative transfers and Georgia Special Needs Scholarship transfers beginning March 8.

Georgia’s Public School Choice law allows residents of the City of Atlanta to attend a public school outside of their zoned school if space is available. Those that live outside of the City of Atlanta may apply to attend an Atlanta Public School if space is available and with the payment of non-resident tuition. APS offers two types of transfers:

  1. General Administrative Transfers – permits a student to attend an out of zone school until the highest grade of the school. Approval is subject to space availability at the requested school.
  2. Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Transfers – permits eligible special education students to request a transfer to another APS school on the basis of special needs. General administrative transfers and Georgia Special Needs Scholarship transfers applications will be accepted at the APS Department of Student Relations, 130 Trinity Avenue, 2nd Floor, Atlanta, Georgia 30303 during the following dates and times:

Saturday                   March 8               9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Monday-Friday         March 10-28        8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Parents may apply any time during the application window. Applications submitted on the last day receive the same consideration as applications submitted on the first day. Transportation under this public school choice option is the responsibility of the parent.
