Atlanta Public Schools board of education member Cecily Harsch-Kinnane will not seek reelection in 2013.
Harsch-Kinnane represents District 3, which includes the and clusters.
“This is not a reaction to anything," Harsch-Kinnane told Atlanta Progressive News." I feel good about my time served. People serve different roles on the board.”
Her role, she said, is a parent representative. By 2013, her youngest child will be a senior at Grady High School and she said that is her cue to exit.
Harsch-Kinnane is currently serving her second term as the District 3 representative.
Before securing a seat on the board of education, she served as PTA president at Morningside Elementary School, a member of the PTA boards at Inman Middle School and Grady High School and co-president of the Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools.
According to Atlanta Progressive News, Yolanda Johnson (District 6) and Emmett Johnson (District 9) will also not run for reelection.
The blog suggests parent Nicole Foerschler Horn — a member of Step Up For Public Schools — will run for the District 3 seat.
Neither Harsch-Kinnane or Foerschler Horn were immediately available for comment due to the late breaking nature of the news. Stick with Patch for updates Tuesday.
