Author James Carroll to Speak at Emory in the Fall

Carroll to give four free lectures on "Jesus Against Himself"

James Carroll, award-winning author and Boston Globe columnist, will give four free lectures at this fall, the university announced Monday.

The theme of the lectures will be “Jesus Against Himself: From Itinerant Galilean to Christ of God and Back Again.”

Carroll is the author of “Constantine’s Sword,” “Practicing Catholic” and the newly released “Jerusalem, Jerusalem.”

He will “explore how the fundamentals of Christian belief in Jesus are challenged by history and criticism,” according to a news release.

The lectures will take place August 29, September 26, October 24 and November 14.

The day after each lecture, Carroll will participate in luncheon conversations to talk about the topics in a smaller group setting.

Admission to the luncheons is $30 per event or $100 for all four. Registration is limited and currently open. They will be held August 30, September 27, October 25 and November 15 at the Miller-Ward Alumni House, 815 Houston Mill Rd.

The lectures will be held at Glenn Memorial Auditorium, 1652 N. Decatur Rd., at 7 p.m. Admission is free but registration is required.
