DeKalb County Board of Ed. Hires New Leadership

Board hired two deputy superintendents, CIO and director of communications

The DeKalb County Board of Education voted to hire four senior-level employees on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The board hired Kathleen S. Howe as Deputy Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction; Kendra D. March as Deputy Superintendent, School Leadership and Operational Support; Gary L. Brantley as Chief Information Officer and Walter Woods as Executive Director of Communications.

The vote was unanimous and was based on recommendations from Superintendent Cheryl L.H. Atkinson.

Howe, an education consultant, was the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, PreK-12 Communication Arts at the Kansas City Public School System.

March, a doctoral candidate at UNC-Charlotte, is currently the principal of Westerly Hills Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Brantley has served as chief information officer for the Lorain City Schools for four years.

Woods, a former reporter at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, is vice president in the corporate division of Cohn & Wolfe public relations, which currently serves as external communications counsel for DeKalb Schools.
