Dear Faculty, Staff, and Parents,

It is with great excitement that I write you to say I have been awarded a Fulbright Teacher Exchange grant for the academic school year of
2011-2012.   With support and encouragement from my art colleagues and Mrs. Adamson, I began the process of applying for a Fulbright grant back in September of 2010.  After several rounds of reviews, and interviews with Fulbright alumni and the Fulbright Scholarship Board (appointed by the President of the United States), I was selected to exchange teaching positions with Ms. Louise Sumner from Lincoln, England.

Ms. Sumner currently teaches ages 11-18 visual art and art history at
Queen Elizabeth High School in Gainsborough, England.  I have complete confidence that Ms. Sumner will be an equal match to my position at Druid Hills High school.  She will take on my course schedule and continue to teach Drawing 1 and Introduction to Visual Arts, as well as be a sponsor of the National Art Honor Society.

The Fulbright Teacher Exchange grant allows both exchanging teachers and host school teachers an opportunity to gain an understanding and appreciation of the similarities and differences in the national cultures and education systems.  Ms. Sumner and I have a goal to enrich our classroom environments (and ultimately the school community) with a new awareness of other cultures and art, and to allow students the opportunity to gain new perspective about the world in which we live.

It is a great honor to have been selected for this experience.  I do not
take lightly the responsibility that stands before me, and  I look forward
to returning to DHHS (in August 2012) to share my exchange experiences.

Sincerely,

Erica (Nikki) Staton
