Five Druid Hills Students Named to Youth Leadership Group

Ten-month program teaches personal leadership skills and civic engagement

Five students will take part in a 10-month leadership program organized by DeKalb County.

Juniors Tasneem Akbar, Jada Mack and Jackson McCleary and sophomores David Egas and Vivian Lee will join 30 students from around the county in the Youth Leadership DeKalb class of 2012.

Youth Leadership DeKalb was founded 20 years ago by Leadership DeKalb graduates to "mentor" students and encourage student leadership and civic engagement.

The 2012 class represents 20 public and private high schools in the county and will focus on leadership training in a variety of areas including justice and public safety, health, quality of life, business, government, banking and personal finance, career options, civic engagement and personal etiquette.

“These students come from different backgrounds but they all share the same desire to become effective leaders and community contributors,” Diane Jackson-Chapman, program director of Youth Leadership DeKalb, said in a statement. “This program gives students the opportunities to explore their true potential and helps them to improve their leadership skills.”
