Inman Middle Responds to Gang Fears

Principal Paula Herrema sent home a letter to parents on Tuesday detailing possible threats made against the middle school.

More gang activity in Atlanta Public Schools was confirmed on Tuesday as a letter released by the principal of Inman Middle School detailed her school's response to threats made against them on Friday.

An Inman Middle School parent told that parents were hearing that an incident on Friday had led to some "members of the gangs involved" discussing plans to "'shoot up some kids' at Inman on Monday at 12:15. It didn't happen, thank goodness." The parent said some students stayed home Monday due to the rumors.

Principal Paula Herrema confirmed in her letter to parents that, "during Friday afternoon's dismissal, a group of 7th and 8th grade boys were involved in a fight." The fight was immediately taken care of, she said, and there was no danger.

Herrema acknowledged that there were rumors, "that high school students may come to our campus in response to the incident that occurred last Friday."

Sgt. Gregory Lyon told Patch that the Atlanta Police Department was aware of the concerns and that off-duty officers working as school resource officers were deployed to Inman.
