Kroger giving away $96K plus in classroom supplies

Piedmont Avenue store one of two locations where Atlanta-area teachers are invited to receive up to $40 in free classroom supplies this week

Atlanta Division will be showing support for city-area teachers this week by giving away classroom supplies valued at more than $96,000 as part of the grocer’s 2012-2013 “Earning Plus Learning” program.

On Thursday, Aug. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., educators with a valid Georgia teacher ID can go to one of two Atlanta-area giveaway locations, including at 395 Piedmont Avenue near Midtown, to receive up to $40 in free school supplies. 

The other location is at 1700 Jeurgens Court in Norcross. Classroom supplies include, but are not limited to: copy paper, construction paper, markers, scotch tape, disinfectant tape and sandwich bags.

Teachers will receive items on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

“Each year, an increasing number of teachers are forced to use their own paycheck to purchase classroom supplies,” Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger’s Atlanta Division, said in a statement. “Kroger is committed to education, and making sure our teachers have the tools they need to successfully educate our children is an essential step in this effort.”
