Springdale Park PTO Awards Enrichment Grants

Grants total $2,000

The Parent Teacher Organization recently awarded five enrichment grants to teachers and classrooms at the Virginia-Highland school.

The grants include sending a teacher to the Ga. Assoc. for Gifted Children conference in March 2012 and an annual subscription to Scholastic News.

The organization earmarks $2,000 for enrichment grants each school year.

More.Starfall.com - submitted by Ms. Blassingame, on behalf of Spark's Kindergarten team. This program compliments the Kindergarten curriculum. The upper grades have been provided with curriculum technology sites and now all of Spark's kindergartners will too.

Rigsby Diagnostic - submitted by Ms. Beaumont. This kit supplies all the materials needed to assess students reading levels and to help match students to appropriate reading groups and level of texts. This tool will be housed in the library and will be available to all teachers.

GAGC Conference - Ms. Lynch will be able to attend the Ga. Assoc. for Gifted Children held in March 2012. The conference will provide professional workshops which will expose Ms. Lynch to relevant and recent teaching pedagogyas, as it relates specifically to gifted children.

Scholastic News for Grade 3 - submitted by Jamie Nossokoff and Nadia Aziz. All children in the third grade will obtain an annual subscription to Scholastic News and will be given access to the website.

Mobile Kitchen - submitted by the Wellness Committee. A mobile kitchen will be used to enhance our students understanding of the farm to school program already in place. The Wellness Committee will offer cooking demonstrations to students of any teacher interested.
