Springdale Park to Add Three Teachers

Fifth grade classrooms at will be a little less crowded in the coming weeks.

According to an e-mail sent to parents by school principal Yolanda Brown, Atlanta Public School administrators granted the school three additional teaching positions due to overcrowding issues.

The fifth grade class at Springdale Park currently has 65 students and an average class size of 33 students per classroom.

The letter from Principal Brown:

Dear Parent(s),

This afternoon I received final information regarding the results of the Atlanta Public Schools 20-day student attendance count that concluded on September 2, 2011. After reviewing the information, I am excited to report that Springdale Park has earned three (3) additional teacher positions which will allow us to appropriately address classroom overcrowding at the 5th grade level, as well as provide student support through the Early Intervention Program (EIP). At this time, I am working diligently with Dr. Bockman, SRT-3 Executive Director and the APS Human Resource Department to secure the additional staff for SPARK as quickly as possible. I anticipate receiving final information on our additional staff before the end of the week. At that time, parents will receive a communication outlining the process for selecting and re-assigning students along with the plan and timeline for transitioning the new teacher(s) that will be assigned to a homeroom class.
