Atlanta Marathon Hits the Streets Sunday

Street closure alert! The 50th running of the event will wind through Virginia-Highland on Sunday.

The Atlanta Track Club’s 2012 Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay will run through the neighborhood on Sunday.

Last year, nearly 1,200 marathon participants and 300 relay teams toed the line and a big turnout is expected for this weekend's event, as well. Sunday will mark the 50th running of the Atlanta Marathon, which was previously held in conjunction with the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day.

Runners will pass through the downtown area, past Turner Field, then Grant Park, Memorial Drive, Little Five Points, the Highland Avenue area, Piedmont Park, La Vista Road, the Lindbergh Drive area and Peachtree Road before returning to Atlantic Station.
