Eating Healthy Backcountry Cooking

Are you heading out for your first camping or hiking trip? Not sure what to pack? Instructors Harriett Lane and Sandi Adams will teach you how a design a menu, and prepare nutritious, tasty meals that make your wilderness experience perfect. Your camping group will be jealous. Learn about proper food handling and sanitation techniques and tips on preparing and storing your food. You will learn to minimize cleanup because what you take in you pack out. We will discuss what stove and fuel types are best for your needs, then we will prepare and cook a shared meal on a variety of stoves. We will be sampling freeze-dried meals, along with some of our staff's favorite backcountry recipes from a mix of dried and fresh ingredients. All stoves, kitchen materials, and food ingredients provided (with options for both vegetarians and meat eaters). Ages 12 to adult.
