Storm Damage: Trees Down in Virginia-Highland, Druid Hills

Down trees and power lines blocked many Atlanta roads Thursday night after severe storms swept through the area.

Fox Brothers Bar-B-Q in Candler Park suffered extensive damage early Thursday evening

Damage was less severe in Virginia-Highland and Druid Hills.

Neighborhood streets including St. Charles Avenue were blocked by down trees and power lines, according to reports by residents.

A handful of apartments on Briarcliff Road near Virginia Avenue were without power until around 1 a.m. Friday. Residents reported a loud noise around 9:30 p.m., just before the power went out.

About 2,000 residents across the Atlanta area were without power as of 10 p.m. Thursday night, Georgia Power spokesman Brian Green told Patch.

All outages were caused by down trees, Green said.

Power was restored to the affected areas by early Friday morning.
