Monday Essentials: Jazz On The Lawn Concerts Begin

Here are five things to know about the week ahead in and around Virginia Highland and Druid Hills.

1. Jazz on the Lawn. The first concert in this summer series at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday with Ike Stubblefield. $15.

2. Atlanta Young Singers auditions. Kids in grades 2-12 are invited to try out for the Singers' 38th season at noon Thursday at 980 Briarcliff Road NE. Other auditions will be held throughout the week. Free.

3. Candler Park 5K. This race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the park at 1500 McLendon Ave. NE. $25.

4. Diesel Filling Station’s fifth anniversary celebration. The Virginia Highland restaurant throws itself a birthday party starting at noon Sunday. Free admission.

5. Shows To Benefit Poverty Is Real. Eddie's Attic in Decatur plays host to Caroline Herring, Bobby Bare Jr. and other musicians June 14-16 to raise money for a poverty-fighting charity.
