Monday Essentials: Piedmont Park Arts & Craft Fest

Here are five things to know about the week ahead in and around Virginia Highland and Druid Hills.

1. Art in the park. The third annual Piedmont Park Summer Arts & Crafts Festival will be held Aug. 17-18 with up to 250 artists and artisans expected to exhibit. Free.

2. Attention, young actresses. Auditions for Madeline’s Christmas at Horizon Theatre in collaboration with The Atlanta Children’s Theatre Company will be held Aug. 18, 24 and 25.

3.  Stories on the Square. This open mic story-telling event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Famous Pub in the Toco Hill Shopping Center. The theme is "firsts." Free.

4. Starting a small business. This free program sponsored by Georgia State University shows you how to finance a start-up or growing business. Starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday at GSU's Peachtree Dunwoody Center at 5909 Peachtree-Dunwoody Road, Palisades Building.

5. VCHA meeting. The Virginia Highland Civic Association monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ponce de Leon branch library, 980 Ponce de Leon Ave.
