The child with this gun had been bringing it to school since last week. Tons of kids saw it and heRead More would bring it out and pretend to shoot his friends on the bus. I agree that getting parents physically at the school is the way to curb this kind of behavior. I am pleased to see Inman's test score grades. Very impressive. They need to have some kind of major intervention to cut down on the daily fights, vandalism, guns, bulling, etc... I totally know that it is a big school, etc.. but come on. I keep getting told by the principal, "This is public school and there is a lot of red tape". This is not fair for the administration, teachers or the students. It really is just a small group of kids that are causing all the problems. Most of the kids are excellent, well behaved students.

This was an extremely sensationalize report. The kid was not arrested. It was a toy gun. TheRead More administration found out the boy had it, turned it over to the off-duty APD officer who is assigned to the school as a resource officer and they dealt with it in a formal way. Good work on the part of the school, but a cheap way to get web hits to this article with this type of reporting and headline.

I should clarify that the boy was not arrested, but was given an arrest ticket for having the toyRead More gun at school. He left the school with his parent and did not go to jail....Tim

Calm it down. And stop being silly. Every kid in the fourth ward is a hoodlum? really?! ThinkRead More about what you're writing before actually pressing "send" because it's lacking in thought and sense.

The Inman Violence Problem is a Consistent Casual Biased Disregard for Compliance w/GA Law, APSRead More Policy & Ed. Ethics-stemming from lack of ANY TRANSPARANCY or CONSEQUENCES for Educators who do not comply w/Standards. A step to begin to address these issues starting w/Violence & Bullying: Inman Principal to report monthly by email & PTA ALL Incidents of Bullying & Violence SPECIFICALLY By Type-NOT Cliched Generalities. Report to include a Resolution Column: Incident Resolved in Compliance w/Law-Policy? Report certified correct by Principal-exceptions to Law/Policy approved by APS Board. Report to be current month, YTD & Year-over-Year. True status of environment would be known. School is supposed to be a place Kids WANT to be, NOT a place Kids FEAR. Inman Reality: Near Homicide Attack on 12 yr old, BB guns on school bus & in school, fight breaking out in Assembly WHILE Herrema is addressing it, students left unattended, teachers surfing e-Harmony while they are "teaching" & not complying w/Hard Lock Down Procedures, 7th Grade NOT req. to pass through metal detectors-a consistent & casual disregard for Law, Policy & Ethics consistently placing Kids at Risk. Step towards Tranparancy & Accountability-Go beyond tired cliches & coffe & donuts-Immediately Implement this type of Reporting, stats are already compiled, so NO Additional Cost--Principal to hold Educators Accountable--suspend those Educators IMMEDIATELY without pay who do not comply w/Standards--environment will improve

Jeff & Jennifer I am truly sorry for what happened to your "Honor roll student son"Read More but perhaps you should get off your high horse, stop complaining and do something about Your son's bullying. MY "honor roll student at Kittredge Magnet School for High Achievers" daughter and the rest of our family had to stop going anywhere near your son because of his actions to her. What he did to her predates and postdates his awful incident who is the bully? Just because the adults involved lied to the police and stopped it from being a criminal case doesn't mean it didn't happen either. So how about... "The 'Unnamed Institute' Sexual Violence Problem is a Consistent Casual Biased Disregard for Compliance w/GA Law, PCA Policy & Ed. Ethics-stemming from lack of ANY TRANSPARANCY or CONSEQUENCES for Members who do not comply w/ Morals...Boy's family's casual disregard for Law, Policy & Ethics consistently placing Kids at Risk. Step towards Tranparancy & Accountability-and Truthfulness Immediately Implement this type of Reporting, stats are already compiled, Parents to hold Their Children Accountable--Accept IMMEDIATELY without biased "my precious would never do anything wrong." Point out Families who do not comply w/Standand Morals--environment will improve and be safe for EVERY child." All the innocents deserve justice and Civil Litigation can beget Civil Litigation.

I've removed myself from this thread since it became non-productive. Nonetheless, if I might offerRead More an observation: Seth, take a look at your commentary throughout this thread. You've put down individuals throughout your rhetoric, from Obama on down--including anyone whose viewpoint might differ from yours. Your speech reflects the myopic mind sets put forth by conservatives in Congress. You might have observed how non-effective it has been. If you really intend to effect change (and not just bitch about it) you'll need to work with others who may not embrace your views.
Southern Girl April 5, 2013 at 06:50 am
Oh look the sicko Seth changed his moniker to Amaze... and it truly amazes me how limited you are.Read More Look man, a few things: 1.) Everyone is relevant to these topics. Everyone that has posted lives in the neighborhood, some have kids at these school, some have siblings or friends and family at these school. I know that I personally have a MUCH better understanding of what goes in APS than you. But I think anyone would b/c you're clueless. 2.) Many of these "gangs" are rumors and just a convenient way to group certain kids together, or a word used by naive kids who don't know any better. 3.) Property taxes?! Seriously. My family has been paying property taxes in Georgia even before you laid foot here-- so not only are we paying property taxes in Atlanta, but in SEVERAL surrounding cities, as well as cities further out. But even if we weren't, who cares? Because everyone pays taxes that go towards the city -AND- hmm, let's see there's this thing called renting which happens in every city. Not only does every city have apartments, but many area rent houses-- this include some of your neighbors. Get a clue man, get a clue. These are PUBLIC schools, a person who lives in a box in the neighborhood could go... that's what PUBLIC schools are. 4.) No one wants people like you around or anywhere near them. You pollute the minds of anyone who hears you or is around you. YOU are the PROBLEM with our community. You gripe and complain, but won't offer POSITIVE solutions.

Anyway I've said too much at this point. You're a sick twisted individual, and at this point youRead More appear to be suffering from some form of mental illness. I'm convinced you are. I feel sorry for you man, I really do. All we can do is pray for you and hope that any children around you don't adopt your limited sick views. No one around here agrees with you, and we all hope you move on very soon. You have such nasty opinions about Atlanta that you should move far far away and subsequently enroll your kids in a private school in that area. I'm done feeding the troll, especially when its clearly suffering from a mental illness.

S.I. Thurmond to WSBTV, "I KNOW I am NOT QUALIFIED for the job, but....." Jeeze louiseRead More people. I got a bridge to sell ya over here in District #1.

I will take honesty and hardwork over the last super who claimed to have a magic solution, or LewisRead More who was an over promoted gym teacher and thief. or Johnny? whatshisname, who we hired from Birmingham AL, "the leaders in education" NOT! What we need is results, and in the results area Thurmond has proven he can deliever. Back before Johnny, the school board stated that they were open to looking for a " proven "leader" military, business, or otherwise. They ultimately choose to go with those having a background in Education, and we now see where that got us!

Daily Beast Rankings heavy on Grad Rates--kills GA schools due to new 5-year disallowance and notRead More tracking transfers. Total Bullcrap. http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2013/05/06/america-s-best-high-schools.html
