Crime report for Tuesday, May 15
Around 7:39 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, a caller reported a man sitting in his car in the parking lot behind Genki Sushi, 1040 North Highland Ave. The caller said the man had taken pills and drank unknown amounts of alcohol. Police said the man was unconscious and was transported to the hospital. At press time, an update on his medical condition was unavailable. The following is a small sample of calls for service to the Atlanta Police Department on Tuesday, May 15: 12:31 p.m.: A suspicious person was reported near Saint Charles Place and Ponce de Leon Avenue. 2:05 p.m.: A person was pulled over for reckless driving at Glen Iris Drive and North Avenue. 3:17 p.m.: A worker at Gerber Collision and Glass, 2441 Cheshire Bridge Rd., told police a …

The following report was sent to Virginia-Highland residents by VHCA safety chairman John Wolfinger. The following reports are from our Zone 6 crime stats for the 2012 weeks 15 and 16, with emphasis on our VaHi Beat 601, but with news from around Zone 6 as it applies to us. Again, I state, these reports are not meant to scare anyone, but to make you aware of what happens around us everyday and to raise your level of alertness. Aggravated Assault - No reported incidents in Beat 601 Auto Theft - Vehicles were stolen from Arlington Place, Barnett Street, Briarcliff Place, and a scooter from Virginia Avenue. Atlanta Police arrested a man they believe is responsible for breaking into Yoforia on Monroe Drive in March
Atlanta Police arrested and charged a man on Sunday, May 6, they believe is responsible for back-to-back burglaries of Yoforia on Monroe Drive. Andre E. Andrews is charged with breaking into the yogurt shop at 985 Monroe Dr. on March 1 and March 9. Police believe Andrews kicked in the back door of Yoforia and took money from the cash register. The March 1 burglary was around 11 p.m. The March 9 incident was around 7:00 a.m. He is also suspected of committing other crimes in the Midtown area, according to police. In recent weeks, there's been a rash of high-profile vehicle break-ins, carjackings and auto thefts in Atlanta. The most recent theft occurred sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning in the 500 block of Flat Shoals Avenue in East Atlanta Village. The victim reported her black, Honda CRV, with Indiana license plate No. CA9314, was stolen from the driveway. The responding Atlanta police officer said more likely than not, it was teens looking for something to steal for a joyride. Lieutenant Cantin of Zone 5 Investigations stated that Andrews was arrested while walking on Peachtree Street in Midtown during the morning watch (11 p.m- 7 a.m.). APD had issued a BOLO, and an alert officer just spotted him walking.   more ›
