Wednesday night at Inman Middle School, the Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools will recognize the Grady cluster teachers who received CINS’ grant funding this year.
Please join the Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools (CINS) at its annual Schools Showcase where it will recognize the Grady cluster teachers who received CINS’ grant funding this year. The showcase will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Inman Middle School, located at 774 Virginia Avenue. There will be presentations from some of the teachers who received grant funding on how they used their grant funds to impact student education and growth in their classrooms. This is the 29th year that CINS has awarded grant funds to teachers serving the Grady Cluster. This is always a very uplifting meeting that includes lots of student participation. The study commission by the Virginia-Highland Civic Association found that of the three sites it reviewed, a site in the Old Fourth Ward would be the most suitable for a Middle School Academy.
An analysis of three possible sites for a new Middle School Academy found that the former David T. Howard High School in the Old Fourth Ward "is the best-suited location of the three in terms of its ability to absorb the proposed Middle School Academy use without causing the quality of life of the adjacent community to erode." The study was commissioned by the Virginia-Highland Civic Association as part of the community's effort to take an active part in Atlanta Public Schools' discussions about how to relieve crowding at Inman Middle School. Grady’s State-of-the-Cluster Meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Grady High School and is open to all community members and stakeholders. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Atlanta Public Schools’ Superintendent Erroll B. Davis is expected to attend and discuss middle school capacity issues. A task force charged with coming up with recommendations to relieve overcrowding at Inman Middle School is expected to give their recommendations to Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr. soon. Davis, speaking to a group of parents in the Grady High cluster of schools, made his remarks last week at a meeting of the Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools. The task force, which is scheduled to meet for the eighth time Oct. 30, is looking at several alternatives such as a standalone sixth grade or eighth grade academy to relieve Inman Middle's capacity issues. Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr. met with parents in the Grady High School cluster Thursday night to lay out his vision for the district and answer questions. During the forum, which sponsored by the Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools at Inman Middle School, the superintendent said APS is still healing from the scars and scandals of the recent past but that his focus is on boosting school achievement. I am so sorry to hear of this. It seems like APS is failing to discipline violent students all over the district. Perhaps having disciplinary action on record for a high number of students from a specific socio-economic background would make them look like they're doing a poor job of educating that demographic, and that's just too high of a political price for APS.
