Atlanta Public Schools has released a list of projects that will affect schools in the 2013-2014 school year.
Mary Lin Elementary School and Springdale Park Elementary School will be undergoing renovations in the 2013-2014 school year while students continue to hold classes in the building, according to an APS announcement. The TalkUp APS blog has posted a list of schools that will have renovation and construction work done during the coming school year. According to the list, Mary Lin and Springdale Park "will undergo a phased renovation while students and staff remain on site." Atlanta Public Schools high schools get full accreditation this week in this quick peek at Midtown school news you can use
Earlier this week, the high schools within the Atlanta Public Schools system, including Grady High, were restored to full accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The schools were placed on probation in early 2010 in the wake of the 2009 Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests cheating scandal involving APS educators. Infighting amongst the school board and issues with the “governance” within the district resulted in SACS placing the APS high schools on probation. In 2011, the district was moved to “accreditation with advisement” status. Group calls for a "renewed" Grady cluster.
The latest petition to surface in the Atlanta Public Schools redistricting debate is calling for a "renewed" Grady High School cluster. The proposal removes East Lake Elementary, Toomer Elementary, Coan Middle and King Middle from the current Grady cluster, and leaves Morningside Elementary School, Springdale Park Elementary School, Mary Lin Elementary School, Hope-Hill and Centennial Place to feed into Grady. It's unclear from the online petition who drafted and released the plan.
