The goal of the project is to identify sidewalks that are a safety hazard in the neighborhood. Over the course of five days, you looked at photos of more than 50 sidewalks around the neighborhood and voted for what you believe are the most hazardous. Now, you can chime in one more time. These 10 sidewalks were voted among the worst in the neighborhood. Which do you think is the biggest safety concern? Funding for sidewalk repair is a contentious topic around the city. A Patch report later in this series will outline who is responsible for sidewalk repairs …

Thank you to everyone who has contacted us to report other sidewalks and sent photos with street addresses! For anyone waiting for sidewalks you know about to come up on the list... don't wait! We are counting on you let us know about the sidewalks that at issue to us, just like Barbara did. Together we'll be able to cover 100% of the neighborhood. It's somewhat ironic that the city hired crews to make accessible nearly every corner and outfit them with the yellow "mats" for the benefit of those with disabilities. The irony is that the sidewalks are so bad in spots that someone in a wheelchair would still have great problems navigating them, accessible corners or not. I don't object to that work, but only wish that WHILE THEY WERE AT IT, …   more ›

These are all pretty bad; but I hope one day this week an option will be the block of Virginia Ave., on the east side between Hudson and Rosedale Dr. Not only is that sidewalk in the curve really broken or non-existent, but it is also poorly lit at night, there is broken glass on the street strip, and barely overhead branches. The worst maintained sidewalk in the entire neighborhood IMHO. Thanks …   more ›
