The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, picks 1,000 students every year who receive scholarships to use at a university or college of their choice.
Fourteen high school students from Atlanta Public Schools, including two from Grady High School, were named Gates Millennium Scholars. The two Grady High School students named were Mezmure Dargie and Sanjida Mowla. The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, picks 1,000 students every year who receive scholarships to use at a university or college of their choice. The Carson Scholars Fund, Inc. was founded in 1994 to address the education crisis in the United States.
Twenty Atlanta Public Schools students, including one from Grady High School, were named Carson Fund Scholars. The Grady student is Archie Kinnane, an 11th-grader. The students will each receive $1,000 college scholarships. The fund is named after Benjamin S. Carson, the famed Johns Hopkins Pediatric neurosurgeon, and his wife, Candy. They founded the funded in 1994 after reading a study that showed the United States ranked 21st out of 22 nations in science and mathematics. Since then, the fund has awarded scholarships to students in grades 4 to 11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Since 2002, the Carson Scholars Fund has recognized more than 400 students in the Southeast.

Wednesday night at Inman Middle School, the Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools will recognize the Grady cluster teachers who received CINS’ grant funding this year.
Please join the Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools (CINS) at its annual Schools Showcase where it will recognize the Grady cluster teachers who received CINS’ grant funding this year. The showcase will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Inman Middle School, located at 774 Virginia Avenue. There will be presentations from some of the teachers who received grant funding on how they used their grant funds to impact student education and growth in their classrooms. This is the 29th year that CINS has awarded grant funds to teachers serving the Grady Cluster. This is always a very uplifting meeting that includes lots of student participation. Families with students entering the 9th grade at Grady High School this fall are encouraged to come to one of three tours, starting April 20th.
Parents and families living in the Virginia-Highland area with rising 9th graders attending Grady High School next school year can attend one of the upcoming Grady High spring campus tours. The tours will help students become a little more familiar with the campus, so that on the first day of classes, things will not seem too confusing. According to the Grady High website, "the tours begin in the cafeteria and include an overview of Grady and a comprehensive tour of the campus led by Grady teachers and students." Urban Couture is coming to an end this Summer, and the design students are excited to show off their work one last time.
The 10th installment of the Urban Couture Show that is put on by the design students at Grady High School will take place on May 11 for the last time. According to a short announcement on Grady's website, everyone is invited to "come out to celebrate the final year of Urban Couture on May 11th at 7:00pm in the Practice Gym." For 10 years, the Urban Couture was initiated by instructor Vincent Martinez of Grady High School. This year will be the first year in which, Martinez will no longer be backstage leading the designers on.
