The week after the Atlanta City Council approved District 6 Councilman Alex Wan’s resolution to support marriage equality, Mayor Kasim Reed Tuesday signed it in announcing his support for gay marriage. The resolution supports the city’s lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual community by endorsing marriage equality for same-sex couples. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has announced the launch of the redesign competition for the City of Atlanta’s Phoenix Award. This design contest is open to students enrolled in an accredited college or university in metropolitan Atlanta. The Phoenix Award is the highest honor an individual or group can receive from the mayor of Atlanta. The award recognizes outstanding achievements and service to the city, state, nation or world. Atlanta mayor says the unanimously approved ordinance by the Atlanta City Council is “going to help us connect people who need help with service providers."
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said Monday that he was pleased with a compromised panhandling ordinance, which was unanimously approved by the Atlanta City Council Monday night, that will allow the City to regulate aggressive monetary solicitation across the entire city. The mayor indicated it represented the right balance between tough enforcement and offering humane services to those who need it including the homeless.
