Phase 1 will add 12.5 acres of green space to the park.
The planned Piedmont Park expansion has begun. The work is part of the Piedmont Park Conservancy's ongoing plan to incorporate the master plan for the signature greenspace. The construction work continues Phase 1 of the expansion and will bring an additional 12.5 acres of green space in the are of the park that's closest to where the park hits Piedmont Avenue, as well as Monroe Drive. It will add nearly 100 trees, a mulch path in the Walker Woods section and foot bridges along the Clear and Orme Creeks, Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan, whose district includes Midtown, said in an update to constituents. The development plans also includes adding three pedestriam entrances to the park. The work is expected to be complete in June, Wan said.

Agricultural equipment manufacturer AGCO gifts a cleaner, more efficient tractor for park projects.
The Piedmont Park Conservancy (PPC) received a late 2012 gift when the Duluth-based agricultural equipment manufacturer AGCO delivered a new Massey Ferguson tractor, valued at nearly $50,000 to Piedmont Park. The new tractor joins the Conservancy’s current tractor, a Massey Ferguson 1180, which is used for maintaining, beautifying and improving the park. “We are thrilled to receive such a generous donation from AGCO,” said PPC President and CEO Yvette Bowden in a news release. “Support from Atlanta companies is crucial to the continued growth and maintenance of Piedmont Park. Staff Reports In support of a national initiative to promote the awareness of childhood obesity, All-Star Active invites metro Atlanta residents to Piedmont Park on Sunday, Oct. 7 for the Kids Ultimate Fitness Challenge. The free event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. At the Ultimate Fitness Challenge, kids of all ages get the opportunity to demonstrate their physical fitness by participating in a time-based obstacle course that includes sprinting, jump roping, wall crawls, hurdles, jumping jacks, sit ups, tunnel crawls and to finish off the course - a 20-foot inflatable confidence climb and 60-meter dash to the finish. With the recent contribution to the Piedmont Park Conservancy’s Breaking New Ground closure campaign, PPC now needs only $484,000 before Phase 1 construction of an ultimate 53-acre expansion can be completed.
Piedmont Park Conservancy has announced its latest enhancement to historic Piedmont Park with the installation of new fitness equipment to the Active Oval, Atlanta’s busiest sports fields. The purchase and installation of the equipment was made possible by a generous donation from the Mary Alice & Bennett Brown Foundation.
