'Anchorman 2' Invaded Manuel's Tavern

It didn't take much effort to make the Poncey-Highland watering hole look like the 1970s.

Manuel's Tavern went back to the 1970s this week.

On Wednesday, the tavern was closed all day because a movie crew took over the premises for filming.

Manuel's management wasn't allowed to say what movie was being filmed there, but word leaked out it was Anchorman 2, starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd.

Manager Brian Maloof posted on Facebook,

They needed some additional props from the 70's for the time period shoot and we had them in storage. I overheard a guy say 'it is nice we do not need to change many things for this 70's shot.' I am not sure how to take that.

WXIA-TV produced a report on the filming but couldn't get inside the tavern. However, this was observed from the outside:

The sequel to the 70s-based movie bused in a couple of dozen extras, clad in comically dated clothes and hairstyles. Actor Paul Rudd was spotted entering the tavern's back door early Wednesday afternoon, along with David Koechner. A publicist for the movie said the shoot would conclude Wednesday.

When the crew left, Maloof reported on Facebook,

Thank you to our customers, neighbors and friends for putting up with the traffic trouble and inconvenience. Manuel's being able to do this is a nice financial shot in the arm. This filming will definitely boost staff morale and build future business. This gets us closer to our big goal of providing a benefit package to our employees.
