Slice & Pint, Building a Legacy in Emory Village

Russ Yates, together with is business partner, is bringing a neighborhood pub to Emory Village.

For Russ Yates, owning his own business has been a lifelong dream.  After working more than ten years in the marketing industry, he gave up his corporate job to start up a neighborhood pub in Emory Village,

“I really wanted to make a change in what I was doing in my life,” Yates said.

Yates partnered up with Crawford Moran, brew master at the 5 Seasons, to create a pizza and craft beer pub that he hopes will be a place where Emory students and the surrounding community will be at home.

“We really wanted to come and make that neighborhood pub that we’ve always wanted,” Yates said.

But for Yates, this is more than his first venture into self-employment, it’s an opportunity to become a meaningful part of a community. Most of the meats and vegetables will be bought locally and beer will be brewed on-site once when the brewing system is ready later this year.

“I wanted to be where I felt like I could make a difference to my employees, a difference to the area and feel like I’m making a real difference in what I’m doing,” Yates said.

Yates will be moving to the Druid Hills area later this year to become even more immersed in the community where he works.

“We definitely want to be a part of the community and support the community and do whatever we can to give back,” Yates said.

Opening up shop hasn’t been easy for the first-time restaurateur.  Slice & Pint was originally set to open in June but has been delayed while the owners wait for permits to be processed at the county office.

“It’s just one of those things, a process you have to work through,” Yates said, noting that the pub is now set to open within the next couple of weeks.

Yates and Moran have renovated the interior of the building and are hoping the cozy atmosphere will encourage people to consider Slice & Pint their neighborhood pub.

“The guys who ran Everybody’s were here for over 40 years and I look forward to carrying on the torch,” Yates said.  “Hopefully we can do something similar here and really provide that great place that people remember for years to come,” Yates said.
