Monday Essentials: VaHi Civic Association Meeting

Here are five things to know about the week ahead in Virginia Highland and Druid Hills.


Monthly meeting. A Virginia Highland Civic Association board meeting as well as a general meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ponce de Leon branch library at 980 Ponce de Leon Ave. The public is invited.

Sacred harp singing. You can learn early American hymns sung in this powerful, exuberant style. Beginners welcome. 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Emory Presbyterian Church at 1886 N. Decatur Road NE. Free.

Atlanta Street Food Festival. This is billed as the largest food truck gathering in the Southeast. More than 25 food trucks, local merchants and artisans are expected to gather from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at Piedmont Park. A couple of bands will play, too. Free admission.

College admissions workshop. This session is designed for college-bound students and their parents. It starts at noon July 11 on the third floor of the Emory University Main Campus-Admissions Building on Oxford Road.

Stories on the Square. This open mic for storytellers starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Famous Pub at 2947 N. Druid Hills Road.
